DVD Air Racer : Chasing the Dream. 10/21/2009

DVD Air Racer : Chasing the Dream.    A life charged with speed and emotion.

Christopher Webb latest films tells about Reno National Championships, air racers life and spirit, and their individual fast flying machines. This documentary shows how one's dream to build the fastest airplane shapes up. The story is about husband-and-wife team, Jon and Patricia Sharp who spend their life and money building Nemesis NXT.

Nemesis NXT is to be the most advanced air racer airplane ever. A full engineering team including aviation core technologies specialists are working alltogether with Jon and Patricia. The feature emphasises the design, construction and assembly with high tech materials - such as carbon fiber -, and the custom made engine that is built to power the project. It is a four years long hard and precise work with skills in one's garage. All in all I share Mary Dilda's point of view that they are ' basically going back to the early years of aviation, seeing what the technology will do making the airplanes going faster ' . These unsusual pilots are some of the aviation new pioneers.

Then comes an emotional first flight at Mojave airport, and the first competitions. As everyone will discover in that film it is an heartbraking adventure for Jon and his team to manage qualifying and competing in his first Reno Air Races flying Nemesis NXT. Many incidents make things difficult for Jon and even more emotional is the fact that these guys never give up whatever bad event strike their dreams. If you want to know what is really happening and how all that ends you really need to watch this DVD program that you can order at : www.airracerthemovie.com

I was much impressed to discover how all Reno competitors are fair with each other. Famous champions such as John Parker and Darryl Greenamyer (who happened to become many times a Champion at Reno..) and other ones.., who live the same passion to win also have their share to their adversary's sorrow when he fails. Moreover many of these competitors superb air racing airplanes and overpowered engines are well explored in that film.

As a photographer I would highly recommend this program to anyone looking for amazing aviation shots and movies. The race is tracked through all competitors cockpits with small high tech cameras, all frames are perfectly shot - even if the US West Coast or South West sunlight helps much to succeed in having perfect light to do the job - and the whole documentary is finely constructed with a clever scenario. A life charged with speed and emotion.., is how I'll qualify this film.
